Supporting sick children and their siblings

Ronald McDonald Learning Program

The Ronald McDonald Learning Program assists school-aged children with serious illnesses and injuries to catch up on missed education following treatment and recovery. Providing a suite of educational support services, including educational assessments, therapy sessions, and one-on-one tutoring with an qualified teacher/experienced tutor, the Program is tailored to students’ individual needs. We aim to build each child’s confidence and self-esteem as they return to the classroom. All services are free to families thanks to funding from our generous supporters.

Request Tuition

Ill or injured children and their families have enough to deal with. Our free Learning Program supports over 200 students each year helping them catch up on missed education and making the return to school less stressful. Most children will receive up to four terms of one-on-one tuition with a qualified teacher, plus an educational assessment, speech, or occupational therapy if needed.

Teacher Professional Development

Helping a student transition back to school after illness or injury can be challenging for teaching staff. EDMed, our free professional development program, provides teachers with strategies to support these students. Delivered face-to-face or online, the two-hour course equips educators with practical tools to ensure a smooth reintegration into the classroom.

Tutor with us

Teachers across NSW and the ACT are encouraged to become Learning Program Tutors, and support students. Teachers are paid an hourly rate to tutor students as they return to school. Each student receives up to 40 hours of tutoring, usually completed for an hour each week over four school terms.
