Your impact so far in 2026

Because of you, families have stayed together when they needed each other most.

Every stay, every meal and every act of kindness has kept families close to the care their child needs. Together, we have given families comfort, support and hope while they face childhood illness. Here is the impact you have made so far in 2026.

Beyond the numbers

Every statistic has a story behind it

The impact of Ronald McDonald House Sydney goes far beyond accommodation. From helping children continue their education to creating comfortable spaces for families to rest, here is a closer look at some of the moments that shaped 2026.

Ronald McDonald Learning Program

Learning shouldn’t stop because of treatment.

The Learning Program continues to grow, with more than 170 students supported through tutoring, educational assessments, allied health services and new after-school activities, helping children stay connected to learning while away from school.

A Home Away From Home

Providing free accommodation for families with sick or injured children receiving medical care.

It costs approximately $190 to provide a family with a free night’s stay, giving them a safe and welcoming place to stay close to their child’s treatment.

Every family stay also supports the healthcare system by allowing children to receive outpatient care, freeing up hospital beds.

Our Volunteers

The heart of our House and Family Rooms.

Our volunteers help keep Ronald McDonald House Sydney running every day. From welcoming families and preparing meals to supporting our Family Rooms at Sydney Children’s Hospital and Wollongong Hospital, they make a meaningful difference every day.

So far this year, 203 volunteers have generously given their time to support families when they need it most.

35 Years of Keeping Families Together

Celebrating three and a half decades of care.

Since opening in 1991, Ronald McDonald House Sydney has supported thousands of families through childhood illness.

While we’ve grown over the past 35 years, our purpose has never changed: keeping families close when it matters most.

Our story

Comfort That Feels Like Home

Every family deserves a good night’s sleep.

This year we completed a full House upgrade, replacing every bed and mattress thanks to the generous support of Sealy, 1300 Rubbish and volunteers from the Coogee Dolphins.

A comfortable bed offers more than rest. It provides comfort, dignity and a sense of normality during an incredibly difficult time.

Key Projects

 Completed (January - June 2026)

April
  • Thanks to our partners at Sealy Posturepedic Australia, every bed in the House has been replaced, giving families a more comfortable place to rest after long days at the hospital. The Sealy team and volunteers from the Coogee Dolphins generously helped unpack and assemble the new beds, while 1300 Rubbish sustainably recycled every old bed and mattress, ensuring nothing went to waste.
  • Our partners at TAPPT generously pressure cleaned the exterior of the House, including the walls, windows and pathways, helping create a warm and welcoming environment for every family who walks through our doors.

 Upcoming (July - December 2026)

August:
  • Installation of a new commercial combi oven to strengthen our ability to provide healthy, home-cooked meals that bring comfort and nourishment to families staying at the House.
  • Refurbishment of one of our ensuite bathrooms to create a more accessible and comfortable stay for families with mobility needs.
  • Renovation of our Children’s Playroom to create a brighter, more welcoming space where children can play, learn and simply enjoy being kids during their stay, with thanks to our partners TAPPT and Northpoint Studio.
  • Upgrading wardrobes in two family bedrooms to provide more practical storage and help families feel more at home during longer stays, with thanks to Northpoint Studio.

Volunteer Spotlight

“I’ve been a high school teacher for over 30 years. As I transferred to part-time teaching and now approach future retirement, I knew I wanted to volunteer somewhere in some capacity. In 2024, I picked up a pamphlet in a local coffee shop. This was from the Family Room in Wollongong Hospital. Immediately, I knew this was something I felt strongly about. Something I wanted to be part of.

I thoroughly enjoy my fortnightly shifts in the family room. It is such a positive, warm & rewarding environment. Somewhere, I know I can make a small difference in the lives of families who need love and support – often under difficult circumstances. “

The greatest measure of our impact is not found in numbers. It is found in families.

As Ronald McDonald House Sydney celebrates 35 years, CEO Simone Daher reflects on the compassion, courage and community that have shaped our journey and why keeping families together remains at the heart of everything we do.
